SEO Company in Kolkata: How to Choose the Right One

Compare SEO services, costs, reporting and agency promises before choosing an SEO company in Kolkata for your business.

Choose an SEO company in Kolkata that explains what it will change on your website, why those changes matter and how you will measure the work. Ask for a clear scope, examples you can check and access to your own reports before you sign up.

Search engine optimisation, or SEO, helps search engines understand your website and helps people find relevant pages. Google's SEO Starter Guide explains these basics. For your business, the useful question is more direct: will the work help the right people discover what you sell?

Suppose you run a salon in Garia. You want enquiries about your services from people you can actually serve. A report full of visits from unrelated searches will tell you very little about that goal.

This guide comes from Chandan Digital, a Kolkata-based digital marketing agency. Use the same checks below when you speak to us or compare another agency.

Start with the business problem you want to solve

Write down your main service, the locations you serve and the action you want a visitor to take. Bring those details to your first discussion with an SEO agency in Kolkata.

Keep the goal specific. “More suitable enquiries for bridal makeup in South Kolkata” gives the agency a clearer starting point than “more traffic”. A manufacturer seeking distributor enquiries across India needs a different discussion from a shop seeking nearby customers.

Before you compare proposals, prepare:

  • Your website address and the services you want to prioritise.
  • The areas where you accept customers or deliver orders.
  • Your current enquiry process, including calls, forms or WhatsApp.
  • The pages that already explain your main services.
  • Any previous SEO work and reports you can share.

You do not need a perfect answer to every question. You do need an agency that asks about your business before handing you a package.

What should SEO services in Kolkata include?

Ask the company to separate the work into website checks, page improvements, local visibility and reporting. Then ask which parts your website actually needs first.

Google lists content review, technical advice, keyword research and content development among the services an SEO professional can provide. Its guide to hiring an SEO also recommends asking about relevant experience and how the provider measures success.

Website checks with clear priorities

An SEO audit is a review of problems and opportunities on your website. Ask for examples from your own pages and a short list of proposed fixes.

For each issue, request three details: the page affected, the suggested change and the person who will make it. “Improve technical SEO” gives you little to review. “Repair the broken enquiry-page link in the menu” describes a task you can verify.

Agree on responsibility early. Will the SEO company edit WordPress itself, or will your developer handle the changes? Put that answer in the proposal so work does not stop between two teams.

Keyword research tied to the right pages

Keywords are the words people type into search. Ask the agency to explain the need behind each proposed keyword and choose the page that should answer it.

Consider a hypothetical makeup business. “Bridal makeup artist in Garia” suggests someone looking for a service. “How to prepare skin before bridal makeup” suggests someone seeking advice. Plan a service page for the first need and a helpful article for the second.

Ask for a simple keyword-to-page list. Review it against what you actually offer. Remove training-course terms if you do not run courses, even if a tool reports plenty of searches.

Page improvements that help a customer decide

Open one of your service pages on your phone. Can you understand the service, check who it suits and find the next step without hunting?

Ask the agency to review the page title, main heading, service details, photographs and contact route together. Request accurate descriptions of your work. Supply real prices when you have fixed prices, and explain the quotation process when you do not.

Google's guidance favours useful, clearly organised content and descriptive links. Use its SEO Starter Guide to check the reasoning behind proposed content changes. Repeating “best SEO company in Kolkata” across every paragraph does not give your reader a reason to choose you.

Check whether you need local SEO support

Local SEO focuses on searches connected to a place. If customers visit your business or you travel to their location, ask how the proposal addresses your Google Business Profile, the business listing people see in Google Search and Maps.

Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, meaning how well-known a business is. Complete business details help Google understand what you offer, while distance depends on where the searcher is. See Google's local ranking guidance.

For a hypothetical clinic in Behala, review the correct address, opening hours, appointment link and services before discussing wider coverage. For a business that travels to customers, make sure the agency understands where you actually work.

Ask the agency to distinguish website search results from Maps results in its reports. A position in one does not describe your performance in the other.

Avoid approving dozens of near-identical locality pages that simply replace one area name with another. Google's spam policies identify doorway pages, which funnel similar searches into the same destination without enough useful content, as a form of abuse. Create a separate location page only when you have meaningful information for that location.

Compare SEO packages by the work you receive

Ask for a written quotation based on your website and goals. A monthly amount alone does not explain whether the package includes writing, development, local profile work or only recommendations.

Do not treat the examples below as Chandan Digital's packages. Use them as questions for any quotation.

Part of the proposal What to ask the agency
Initial review Which pages will you review, and what will the findings contain?
Website changes Will you implement fixes or send instructions to my developer?
Content Which pages or articles will you write, and how many revisions can I request?
Local presence Does the scope include my Google Business Profile?
Reporting Which measures will you report, and who will explain the results?
Extra charges Are development, images, tools, taxes and advertising spend separate?
Handover What files, access and work records will I receive if we stop?

Ask each shortlisted company to quote against the same list. Otherwise, you may compare a small advisory service with a package that includes implementation and writing.

If your budget is limited, request a smaller first phase with clear priorities. For example, ask the provider to review your main service pages and enquiry process before proposing a large article programme. Agree on what the first phase should deliver and when you will review it.

Read the evidence behind an agency's promises

Ask for a relevant example of previous work and permission to check it. A useful case study should identify the problem, describe the changes and show the period behind the reported result.

Then look closer. Did the agency compare the same length of time? Did the business launch an advertising campaign during that period? Does the example show enquiries or only website visits? These questions help you understand what the evidence actually supports.

You can also request an anonymised sample report. Check whether you can understand it without a long explanation of tool scores.

Be wary of guaranteed first-place rankings. Google explicitly warns that nobody can guarantee a number-one ranking. It also states that paying for Google advertising does not improve organic rankings, the unpaid positions in search results.

Ask how the agency plans to earn links from other websites. Google's link-spam policy covers buying or selling links for ranking purposes and other attempts to manipulate rankings. Request the method and examples before approving a link-building budget.

Agree on reports that connect search visibility to enquiries

Choose a small set of measures before work starts. Keep a record of the starting position so you can compare later results against something concrete.

Google Search Console reports clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position. An impression records an appearance in search; click-through rate describes the share of impressions that led to clicks. See Google's Search Console performance report guide.

Ask your agency to show relevant searches and pages within that data. Review your business-name searches separately from searches for the services you sell. Someone who already knows your name has a different starting point from someone discovering your business.

Then review what visitors do on your website. Google explains that Search Console and Google Analytics serve different measurement roles: one helps you understand search performance, while the other helps you study activity on your site.

For your own monthly discussion, bring enquiry records too. Separate useful leads from spam, job applications and requests for services you do not offer. A click on a WhatsApp button shows interest; check your actual conversations before counting it as a new customer.

Ask for a brief change log alongside the numbers. It should explain what the team completed, what remains pending and what it recommends next.

Set a review schedule without demanding instant rankings

Agree on delivery dates for the work itself. You can check whether an agency completed a page revision or fixed a broken link on time, even while search results take longer to change.

Google says some changes can affect search within hours, while others can take several months. It generally advises waiting a few weeks to assess the effects. That is guidance about search changes, not a deadline for your website to reach a particular position. See Google's explanation of SEO timing.

Use a staged review. First, confirm the starting data and priorities. Next, check completed work and whether enquiry tracking works. At later meetings, review relevant search activity and lead quality together.

If results disappoint, ask the team to explain what it learned and what it proposes to change. Avoid accepting the same vague progress update every month.

Questions to settle before you give access

Who should own the website and reporting accounts?

Keep your business in control of its domain, hosting and reporting accounts. Ask the provider which access it needs for each task. For an initial audit, Google recommends giving an SEO read-only Search Console access in its hiring guidance.

Record who holds access and agree on a handover process. This is a practical ownership check you can complete before work begins.

Can you start with SEO on your existing website?

Ask the agency to review the current site before proposing a rebuild. Google notes that an SEO can help improve an existing website in its advice on hiring a provider. Request a specific explanation for any proposed redesign, including which problems smaller changes would leave unresolved.

Should your content use English or Bengali?

Start with how your customers ask questions and the language in which your team can support them. Share real enquiry examples with the writer, without personal customer details. If you publish in both languages, review each version for accuracy and natural wording rather than accepting a word-for-word translation without checking it.
